  There is a site called The Weblog Review and they have real people write real reviews of blogs.  The reviewers take the time to go and look at the blog and then write a review of it.  I think that is pretty neat. 
  A number of their reviewers did reviews on my site back in 2003.  There have been a lot of changes since then…  I am not sure what they would say now about my sites.

  I been using computers since 1978.  I got a Radio Shack Model I in 1978. 

  I may have had a computer before 1978.  I do not remember when the C-64 and Vic-20 came out and I owned both of them.  Hell I even owned an SX-64.
  Hell I had a Texas Instruments TI-58 programmable calculator in 1978.  It was a hand held computer.

  Thank God for Wikipedia.  The Commodore VIC-20 came out in 1980. 
  The Commodore C-64 came out in 1982.  I owned a number of them.
  I ran the BBS for one day on a VIC-20 just so I could say I had done it.  But I ran  Howard’s Notebook on a C-64 for years.

  I got a friend, in Kansas City, that went out on black Friday and got a Imac, a Macbook and an iPhone.  He has been a PC guy all his life so that must be interesting.  Hell I would be like a kid in a candy store. I would not know which one to play with.
  He says so far he likes the computers and the phone and the operating system.

  It never came in my mind to buy an Apple.  At first it was the price.  The Radio Shack TRS-80 was about $600.00 but that was a price I could afford.  OK OK it only had 4K of memory when I got it.  But I upgraded to 48K of memory.  (Kids that is not a typo error.  I am talking about 48K of memory and not 48M of memory.) 

  If you read my blog and wonder why is Jim Howard so poor…He worked every day of his life.  Often had two jobs… Now you know…I spent it all on computers.  Smile

  I am using WordPress for this blog and for a couple of other blogs that I do.  I like WordPress.  It is very popular.  I have paid for a number of themes for WP.  I will buy one and then I find one I like better.  So some people are making money.  If you are sitting at home wondering how to make some money and you have some abilities in programming you may want to look at designing themes and plugins for WordPress.
  I have zero ability in that area and in every other area of life.  

  If I upgrade thesis then I would make the sites look different than this site but I would still be using the same theme.  It would make it nice and simple for me and I need things nice and simple.
  The two other sites I would use it on would be www.hnbbs.com and www.hnb1982.com so you may see a change in those sites. 

  I guess at the first of January the new rules go into effect and I need to tell you that if you click on the Thesis link and buy the theme I make a couple of bucks.

  For some reason I just have a gut feeling that blogs should not have rules.  It is not like we are a radio or TV station and have an FCC license.  We are not newspapers… Maybe it is because I been doing this for such a long time. 
  I guess I want them to say if you been doing this since before 1995 then rules do not apply to you.  Smile

  It looks like the steps  I took fixed my computerand I am not getting a blue screen and re-booting.  I now only have two USB devices hooked up on the back of the computer.  That leaves me two free USB slots on the back of the computer.  I am not using the two USB slots on the front of the computer.
  It looks like everything is OK now.  So now I am thinking is the time to hook up my Brother HL-2140 (USB) printer.  I need a printer.
  Then I am thinking if I do not have any problems I can try a keyboard and a mouse that I have that only use one USB port and one PS2 slot.  They are both wireless.  It is the Logitech desktop set (wireless keyboard and mouse) EX110.
  The keyboard is no Saitek keyboard but it is better than the wired keyboard I am using now. 

  I commented here that traffic was down to Howard's Notebook.  I think I know the reason now.  People that do a search and found something at ShowMeBlog get re-directed to HNB OK.  People that do a search for an image on ShowMeBlog are not getting re-directed here.
  There are a lot of people doing a search for images such as Britney Spears "pussy shots" or full frontal nude image of Daniel Radcliffe and those people do not get re-directed to HNB.  I can live without that traffic…Those people seemed to just come and look at the image and were then gone in a flash. 
  So I think that is why traffic looks like it is down at HNB but I think we got most of the real readers still finding us.

  I am going to hook up the printer now.  Wish me luck.

  You will notice a change to Howard's Notebook.  I went from three columns to two columns.
I had a long time friend comment that since the move the font size has been so small that he has had problem reading HNB.  So I have made the font size bigger.

  I am not sure why but traffic to Howard’s Notebook is down 40%.  I am not sure that is correct but it is what traffic sites are showing now.  It took place in like the last seven days or so.
  I am not sure if it is the Christmas season and people are busy or if something else is going on.
  All the traffic that ShowMeBlog was getting I sent over here and I wonder if Google’s spider has removed those search links.  I am not sure how that works it is over my head.

  So much data and so little time and on my part so few brain cells.
I need a smart girl friend.

  Today new rules from the Federal Trade Commission go into effect.  The FTC is going to crack down on bloggers who review or promote products and get freebies or money and do not tell readers.
  I have always told you up front if I am getting any money or anything else.  The new rules will not bring much of a change here.  The new rules will make me think a bit more when I post something. 
  I post here daily about sites that I like or services or things I buy or want to buy and never tell you that I do not get paid for those comments.  I may have to start telling you, some how, that it is an un-paid recommendation.  I know that is not the rule… I need to tell you when I AM getting paid.  But I do not even want anyone to think that I might be breaking the rules.  I think the FTC rules are a good idea.
  I have seen a few excellent blogs that I did read go to hell… Because when sites like PayPerPost and others started up …those blogs that were so excellent would then be just post after post of promotions so they would get paid.

  God, I love it when CNN links to ShowMeBlog or Howard’s Notebook.  Right now they are linking to HNB.  Is my head swollen up? 

  I read a story on CNN about the Taser makers telling officers to not aim at the chest to minimize controversy.  So I posted my comments about the user of the Taser on Howard’s Notebook.  I did not put that post here on SMB because, I think, you are tired of me screaming and beating my head on the computer desk about it.  
  I am about to cave in… I been up since 0600 hours … I can not remember the last time I was up all day…Most of the time I take a couple of naps.
  I was playing my new theme on HNB.  It looks like I got it installed just in time for a bunch of people to see it.

  I just love it when CNN links to ShowMeBlog and now they linked to Howard’s Notebook.  I am a happy man.  Smile
  When I woke up and I found 14 comments had been left on Howard’s Notebook I knew who to blame.  Smile
  CNN linked to:  Gun-toting soccer mom dead!
  The comments are all very good.  Of course the comments you all leave here are excellent.  But there is such a difference from the type of comments left on sites like YouTube. 

  Speaking of YouTube…They now want people to sign in with their Google ID.  They also say now they get 1 billion views per day. 

  If I have time today I am going to delete some of my YouTube videos.  I have noticed that on YouTube the title is very important if you are going to get views.  I got a number of videos that were, I think, very good and almost no one watched them and I think it came right now to title. 
  I have a hard time coming up with titles for videos or even titles for post to ShowMeBlog.  I need some sort of software the comes up with good titles.  Smile!  I guess that is an area that is best done by a real human person.

  I have a real problem with colors.  I have seen programs that will pick out colors and do the matching thing for you…I never use that type of software but I sure as hell should.
  This green color that you see me use a great deal of the time is because a programmer in Switzerland came up with a design of a logo and masthead for me.  I was a reader of Howard’s Notebook and he was a professional and he did it for me for free.  It just shows why some people are professional or experts.  I wish I had been given some sort of talent by God but he must have been pissed at me for some reason.  Or God has a limited amount that he can give out and I was at the end of the line.

  I got my first money from today from Google AdSense.  It took me months to earn enough for them to send me money.  I think I will now get money from them about six times a year.  I am going to work to increase the amount that I earn with them and it would be great to get money each month from them.
  I have never got a penny from Amazon and I have been signed up with them for years.
  The content of my blog comes first and how it looks matters.  I do not get enough from them to let them effect the content or how the blog looks.

  What I should do with the small amount of money that I earn from Google is use that money to pre-pay my hosting sites and pay for domain fees and things like that… My other idea is that I should get some hardware item that I would use all the time and that way it would make me think… That I got it because of my work on the blog and that I should work harder.

  No wonder I am poor.  I own 14 domains.  I was just checking GoDaddy.Com and I see that I own 14 domains.  If you asked me to name them I could not remember them.

  Why did I not list the 14th domain?  It is a site that I set up for another person.
  Of the domains above many of them are just re-directed to one of my main sites.  But now we know why I am broke. 

  The truth is that domains do not cost all that much these days.
  I should do something with the domains.

    I woke up about 0600 and I posted the story about Kanye West at the MTV awards.  I then went to bed about 0900 and woke up at 1100.  I noticed 24 comments on Howard’s Notebook.  That was a lot of comments on one subject for Howard’s Notebook.  In fact it was a lot of comments even for ShowMeBlog in such a short amount of time.
    I then started reading the comments.  Here is one of the comments:

    “It is so obvious,I won’t stick up for this moron because he wasn’t taught manners. Remember when Janet had her clothing problem? This is much worse and look where it is, on another TV show. Yes TV show and show is all it is. I’m almost 60 and white and I like some Rap, not all but some. This had nothing to do with the Entertainment but the total disrespect of another human beings triumphant winning of an award.

Just don’t buy his CD’s and that will hurt him more than throwing out insults at a bigot who could actually care less. It could have something to do with the outright racist attitude Americans are being forced to endure by the Raunchie Right who only knows how to destroy rather than build. He probably hates Country Music, which in my opinion will outlast any Rap Music.

Beyonce brought a tear to my eye with her unselfish jesture to Swift, she made herself many friends in and out of Rap. Someone should tell him how to spell Cain as in Cain slew Able, well this Kanye isn’t able to slay anyone with his anti-country ignorance.    CNN listed Howard’s Notebook under the Kanye West grabs mic at MTV awards story.  CNN has a section on their site “From the Blogs” and they list some comment from one to three blogs.  
 ShowMeBlog has been listed many times.  I think this is the first time for Howard’s Notebook.  I noticed 24 comments on my post about the MTV story.  I then went and did a check of the stats for Howard’s Notebook and saw that there were 60 people on Howard’s Notebook reading the post.  I knew something was going on then…. So I checked and found that CNN had linked to my blog. 
  It is nice to get the traffic but I suspect they read the post and some comment and then they are gone.  My dream is for them to look around and decided they like the blog and bookmark it and come back and read it often.

  I talked about Conduit in the past.  I even did a YouTube video on it in the past.  Truth is none of you seem real interested.    I will give it a try again… I think some of you could find it useful and even use in your in your organization or business.

  The Conduit people have 60 million people using the toolbar!  The toolbars are easy to set up and totally free both for me and for you.  Search is powered by Google.  There is no Spyware and it is safe, secure and private.  You can add to the tool bar.
  So this is the way it can work… Remember you can create a personal toolbar of your own if you want.
  Here is how it works for me.  I design a toolbar.  I keep it up to date with the links and other gadgets and components.  You can download and install on Firefox or IE.  It is up at the top and you will find the links I have put on it.  Links to ShowMeBlog and Howard’s Notebook and other links.  It is pretty neat.

  Like I said you could design a one of a kind toolbar just for your own use.
  I think it would be most useful for a school, business or organization and they could have it on their own computers and it would help out.

  Someone did a search on Google for “who invented blogging.”   ShowMeBlog was number two on the list and they came here.

    The first link when you do the Google search is to Yahoo Answers.  They seem to say Jorn  Barger in December of 1997.  Sorry wrong answer. I was doing it in 1982! 
    The next link takes you to ShowMeBlog and what I wrote in 01/09/2006.  
    The next link take you to Cnet News.  That is a post that I have yelled and screamed about.  When it was first written they named three or four people and gave a date of 1995.  They have since gone in a number of times and edited the post.  They have softened their statements and left it open that others were doing things like it.  I still object to the post and expect better from Cnet.

Not sure what has happened here.  All of a sudden the theme is gone.  I even went in and picked a different one and still no theme.
  So you are seeing a very white…site with no theme and no formatting… It looks bad.
   I hope the problem is just some minor problem at TypePad…I hope they are working on something.
   I could go to bed and wake up and find everything back to normal.
