CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – In a high tech first — really, really high — astronauts in space finally have Internet access.

Space station resident Timothy (TJ) Creamer had been working with flight controllers to establish Internet access from his orbital post ever since he moved in last month. On Friday, his effort paid off. He posted the first live Twitter post truly from space.

"Hello Twitterverse!" he wrote. "We r now LIVE tweeting from the International Space Station — the 1st live tweet from Space! :) More soon, send your ?s"

Before, orbiting astronauts had to send such Twitter updates by e-mail to Mission Control in Houston. Then controllers posted the tweets.

The International Space Station crew can now use an on-board laptop to reach a desktop computer at Mission Control, and thereby browse the Web. This remote Internet access is possible whenever there is a solid high-speed communication link.

It’s expected to provide a big morale boost…”

I am surprised I did not know they did not have Internet access.  Very strange that they just now are getting it.  I wonder how much bandwidth they have and if they will be watching a movie or something and using up all the bandwidth.

It seems we have so few heroes.  I happen to believe that we all need heroes.
OK, I am not a fan of golf.  I never watch it.  But I sure as hell heard of Tiger Woods.

"(CNN) — State troopers arrived at the home of Tiger Woods on Saturday to interview the pro golfer and his wife about a car crash near his home, but were told the couple was not available to talk as scheduled, a spokeswoman for the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The troopers were asked by Woods' agent to postpone the interview until Sunday, spokeswoman Kim Miller said.

State troopers had tried to speak to Woods on Friday as part of a routine car accident investigation, but his wife said he was sleeping, said Kim Miller, a spokeswoman for the Florida highway patrol.

Woods was treated and released from a hospital after suffering minor injuries in a car accident early Friday in his neighborhood in Windermere…"

He has an accident at 0225 hours … A single-vehicle accident… Pulling out of his driveway at 2AM and he hits a fire hydrant and then a tree?  Something does not smell good to me.
Then on top of that the highway patrol officers have been trying to interview him and he is not able to talk to them about the accident.  One time the officers are told  he can not talk to them because he was sleeping.
I do not like the way this is all looking and sounding.
Did he have a fight with this wife and then leave pissed off and crashed his car?
She is reported to have been standing over him with a golf club and said she broke out the back window and pulled him from the car?

Something is wrong that he will not talk to the police.  Even the great Tiger Woods should talk to the police and if he was sleeping they should have woke him up to talk to the police.

If he had a fight with his wife…Lots of people have fights with their wife or husband.  Even the great Tiger Woods is human.  If he was drinking lots of people drink.  Now drugs are a different thing.
I hope it is something simple and human.
If he thinks he is better than the rest of us…To important to talk to the police or to rich to have to talk to the police well that is an entire different thing… That can be a hero killer.   We simple people love of heroes and they can do wrong and be forgiven…They can be human and make human errors.
But Tiger tell us it is not true that you think you are better than us…Than you think you are above the law…Tell us you do not think you can do anything you want because you are better than us.
We love our heroes but we love them because we want to the be like us or we want to think that we could be like that hero.
Tiger please do not let us down… Tell us the truth… Tell us what we fear is not true.

"The First Thanksgiving", painting by Jean Leon Gerome Ferris (1863–1930)

"Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving Day, presently celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November, has been an annual tradition in the United States since 1863. It did not become a federal holiday until 1941. Thanksgiving was historically a religious observation to give thanks to God, but is now primarily identified as a secular holiday.[1]

The First Thanksgiving was celebrated to give thanks to God for helping the pilgrims survive the brutal winter. The first Thanksgiving feast lasted three days providing enough food for 53 pilgrims and 90 Indians. The feast consisted of fowl, venison, fish, lobster, clams, berries, fruit, pumpkin, and squash. However, the traditional Thanksgiving menu often features turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie…"    Wikipedia

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.
We as a nation have much to be thankful for and I have many reasons to br thankful on this Thanksgiving 2009.
Our economy is in very poor condition this Thanksgiving day but we know why and who is the cause of the problems and they American people have voted most of them out of office.  There are still a few of them left but they seem to be doing everything in their power to cause the rest of them to be voted out of office.
We have a president this year that is trying bold things to correct many of the problems of the past.
We face hard times but at last we can look to Washington and believe that we have a friend in the White House.

I was doing some searching on the Internet and I found a site about SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).  I guess it is the "food stamp" program but they do not call it that anymore.  It could be that it was never the real name for the program.
I took an online test and if you are in Texas here is the link: Texas SNAP Estimator

Now it is just an estimator and I was reading at a Texas news website that it takes months to get "food stamps" in Texas.  Texas does not have enough employees and the ones they do have are not trained very well and are over worked.
I took the online test and it says that I could get $274.00 a month in SNAP benefits.  I am not planning to sign up for real but that is a lot of money for food.  If I could buy $274.00 a month in food I would be eating like a rich man.
With the unemployment rate at 10% in the United States and people losing jobs keep in mind that this is one thing that could help some Americans.

 CNN iReport —

Dax is a 2 year old boy from Washington, IL who has terminal AML- a rare form of leukemia. His parents, Austin & Julie Locke,  have been told that he probably only has anwhere from 4-8 weeks left. A patient of St. Jude, Dax underwent chemo, 2 bone marrow transpants & other procedures. He has a tumor on his spine & the leukemia is everywhere. He did receive radiation on his spine this week  for the tumor as a pallative measure- so Dax wouldn't loose control over his arms, legs, bladder for his death. Sadly, there's nothing further medicine can do for Dax. It is very devastating.

Everyone wants to know what they can do for Dax. The family has requested that everyone "Decorate for Dax". They want everyone to pull out their Christmas lights a little early this year. Already in his neighborhood, as you will see in the video, neighbors are decorating. The decorations started going up the day after Halloween. Inside Dax's house is a tree & friends put a 22 ft lighted "tree" in the back yard. They have been inudated with presents for Dax- which he opens in the mornings. Dax loves Christmas lights! It is not known if he will be here @ Christmas. There is a website: www.decoratefordax.com  where people can take pics & post them for Dax to see & to see the posts from people in this area & around the country.  The family also has a informational website/journal @ http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/daxlocke

A news story was posted last night at : http://centralillinoisproud.com/content/fulltext/?cid=85322

I went through the neighborhood last night before the new story even aired & was delighted to see the Christmas decorations. I sobbed like a baby, but was overjoyed @ the show & support for this family who may not have their baby here @ Christmas time. It's unusual to see Christmas lights up so early, but this year, there's a good reason.

You can join in Decorate For Dax by decorating and taking a photo & sharing it on the Decorate For Dax website listed above- no matter where you live!  You can also make a donation in Dax's name to St. Jude. The family plans on making a rememberance scapbook of all the lights. Help them make this sad time a fond rememberance of the outpouring of love & support.

I been blogging a long time and my blog seems to get indexed very well.  In fact if I blog about something sometimes things happen.
Back in January of 2008 I blogged about my first love Carrie.  We would have been 8 or 9 years old.  Well last month she found my blog.  Today she left me a comment.
  I sent her an email.
It is so nice, at my age, to hear from an old friend.  It is so nice to know that they have had a good life.  Just think I just heard from a girl that I liked about 60 years ago.
It is a small world thanks to computers, the Internet and blogs.

There is a ham radio club in Fort Worth…Well more than one… But I found one that is 6 miles from were I live.  There is no bus service to the club however and walking would take two hours.
I think I will get a bike.  I would not want to ride a bike in Miami because the drivers here are crazy.  It might be safer in Fort Worth so I may look into getting a bike.

I been playing with Googe Earth and Google Maps to look at the area around where I will be living.
It is pretty neat that now you can look around an area and see the homes, streets and everything.

I see that I will be living right next to the city of Benbrook (TX).
There is a Fort Worth Bicycling Association and they have bike rides and they have some weekly rides in Benbrook.  I will have to check it out.  I guess the first thing is get a bike and make sure I remember how to ride. Smile

Tonight is the night that we set our clock back one hour.  At 0200 hours it becomes 0100 hours.  I hate DST.  I think it is stupid.
I guess it does not matter a great deal to me now that I am not working but it was a royal pain in the ass in the past.
I read a great book about Daylight Savings Time.  I can not remember the name of the book but it was very interesting.

For years I worked at a small hospital as the only officer on duty and I worked two 12 hour shifts and two 8 hour shifts.  I worked every weekend and those were the 12 hour shifts. So I was working when the clock went ahead or back for almost 11 years.
In fact I had to adjust the time clock for the hospital each time.  Sometimes it made report writing a pain or even just filling out the daily activity sheet.
The worst was when I had to work an extra hour.  When you work 12 hours you are ready to go home after 12 hours and an extra hour is a killer.
I did not mind it when I only had to work 11 hours … of course I lost one hour of pay.  But that was never a problem for me.
I think we should just leave the clock alone.  Let the seasons happen.

“If you were to judge the success rate of monogamy by the sex lives of public figures, perhaps couples should change their marriage vows to say, "Till a tempting new partner do us part." FULL STORY

CNN has a story by A. Pawlowski and it is listed as a “Mate debate: Is monogamy realistic?”
I know news sites run a lot of stories and reports around subjects like this… anything that talks about sex, sin, stars, mating… People jump on it and want to read it right away…
My gut feeling is that this sort of story on CNN does nothing but hurt them.. If I were one of the born again bible beaters this story would set me off and make me think that CNN had a issue and a goal.
Now knowing what I know about Faux News (aka Fox “news”) I could not turn to them because they run and show more sex than all the other networks.  They of course pretend that they are showing you how bad the other networks are or that they are showing you how sinful the others are… That would not work on me but I bet it works with a lot of the God squad people.

This is a comment from “The DailyShow” web site.

“Maybe it's just me, but the funniest thing I've seen on the news recently was a comment made by the 'balloon boy' at the Wolf Blitzer interview of the family. I'm still chuckling every time I think of it. At the outset of the interview, with the family lined up in front of the camera in their living room in Colorado, Wolf Blitzer's voice-over is heard saying 'Hello' to everyone. Two of the kids mumble an indifferent 'Hello' back. The father looks at the little guy, Falcon, and tells him to "Say hello to Wolf." The six-year-old Falcon, with the angelic face, looks up at his dad and says, "Who the hell is Wolf !?"

It was a priceless bit of live TV (except the kid's question was cut when it was played on The Larry King Show. Although it was played later on CNN). That clip has just gotta be on the shortlist for 'Your Moment Of Zen.'

Message Edited by eaglesham on 10-19-2009 08:16 PM”

The following is from an email I received from a friend.

“I saw an outtake from some CNN tape – they were setting up to do the Larry King progam last Friday – Wolf Blitzer was subbing for King and i guess somebody told Falcon that Wolf Blitzer would be doing the interview. Little Falcon said very plainly on tape "Who the hell is Wolf Blitzer?"  Who the hell indeed.   See that's ok since the rule is it's ok for the kids to cuss at home even a six year old   "Who the hell is Wolf Blitzer".   I guess Falcon knows now since his remark to Wolf blew the lid off the enterprise.   He could have said "Who the fuck is Wolf Blitzer" – that would have been ok too since it was in the home.   There is a video of him jumping from the stairs onto the couch and giving the finger to the camera and saying "Fuck you" which is also fits the guidelines…”

By DAVE COLLINS, Associated Press Writer Dave Collins, Associated Press Writer – Sun Oct 4, 3:14 pm ET

HARTFORD, Conn. – The nation’s nursing homes are perilously close to laying off workers, cutting services — possibly even closing — because of a perfect storm wallop from the recession and deep federal and state government spending cuts, industry experts say.

A Medicare rate adjustment that cuts an estimated $16 billion in nursing home funding over the next 10 years was enacted at week’s end by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services — on top of state-level cuts or flat-funding that already had the industry reeling.

And Congress is debating slashing billions more in Medicare funding as part of health care reform.

Add it all up, and the nursing home industry is headed for a crisis, industry officials say…”

I do not think there is one American that wants to end up in a nursing home.  But thank God there are nursing homes.
My mother and father made it clear they never wanted to end up in a nursing home and they never had to see the inside of one. My father died at a hospital and my mother died at home.  My mother could die at home because one of my daughters (Hillary) moved in with her and took care of her.

Someone sent me some photos of a man nude in Spain walking around all over the place.  The guy that sent it said it was hard to believe that nudity was legal in Spain.
nudemaninspain

I did some research on the web.  Nudity is not legal in Spain.  It is that being nude is not a crime in Spain.  There is no such crime for being nude in public.  You can be nude in Spain if you are on or near a public beach, river bank, lake or other area like that as long as they allow public swimming. Even in other private areas they can not arrest you for being nude.  They might charge you with trespass or some other crime.
I am surprised…Catholic being a very Catholic nation.  If just goes to show how strange Americans are with the subject of nudity.
Sounds like a nice nation to visit for a vacation.

We live on a busy street right on the corner.  About two times a month I hear a bang or a crash and look outside and there is a accident at the corner.

CIMG0637
That just happened 09/13/2009 at 0845.  I am up waiting to wake my son at 0900 which will not be easy.  He is hard to get up.  He has to get up extra early today.  He is trying to save a dog.  There is a cute and very smart dog at work and security is going to call animal control to take it away.  Here in Miami they keep them two days and then they kill them.  They kill 400 a week!  (That is the information someone told me.  I do not know if it is correct or not. I hope not.)
My son is going to work early and try and get the dog in a cage and then he is taking it to an animal rescue place.  He is going to pay them $100.00 a month to try and find someone to take the dog.
It is not going to be easy to get the dog in the cage.  My son cooked steak last night for the dog.  If my son can not get the dog to the animal rescue place it is going to end up dead in about three days.

Last year I got a free nano and I gave it to my grandson.  A couple of years before that I got a new iPod and gave it to my grandson.
Today, I guess, Apple is putting out a new iPod Nano.
It is reported to have a video camera, microphone, speaker, one-click uploads to YouTube, FM radio, pedometer and voice recorder.
I wonder how good the video will be and if it will be as good as the Flip type cameras.

I looked on Amazon just now and they are talking about the “new” iPod and it is the 4th generation iPod.  The one today that is being reported is the fifth generation.
If the camera is good on the new IPod nano I may get one.
I will post more details when I find them.
How dumb of me…  Just go to Apple:  http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/

It looks like the price is going to be 8 GB for $149.00 and 16 GB for $179.00 and if you order right now you get free shipping from Apple.  As soon as I can come up with $179.00 I am going to get one.

There is a Gerontology Research Group that has a list of “Supercentenarians” (people older than 110 years).  I find it interesting for some reason.  My kids, and grandson, seem to think that people my age (68) are going to die any day.  Since my grandfather died at 55 and my father died at 65 I sort of have the feeling that I might die at age 75.  I mentioned that to my doctor on my last visit and she laughed.
I think I am in pretty good shape.  Sure I got some medical problems but I do not feel like I am in all that bad of a condition.
Just think if I live say another 20 years of all the changes that I will see in the next 20 years.  I would only be 88 year old.  I have a friend and his mother is over 100 years old.  My ex-mother in law is 91 years of age.
Of course you do not want to live to long…You do not want to be alive and have your mind gone.  You do not want to be alive and be in major pain all the time.  You do not want to live your life on a vent.

The GRG has 75 Supercentenarians on their list.  Now here is a problem for me …  71 of them are female and only 4 males.  I wonder if it is to late to have a sex change operation.  smile_wink
I would like to be around for 20 more years and see what we happens.  I have a few problems now and they are only going to get worst so I do not want to be around to long.
One thing … I do not want to out live any of my children.  You read death notices and you will see sometimes that they will list all the children and family that have passed away before them.  That would be so hard to take.  I do not think it would get any more easy with time.

How long would you like to live?

I am a big fan of micro-lending and of Kiva and so it is time I give a little plug for them again.

“Kiva’s mission is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty.

Kiva is the world’s first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs around the globe.

The people you see on Kiva’s site are real individuals in need of funding – not marketing material. When you browse entrepreneurs’ profiles on the site, choose someone to lend to, and then make a loan, you are helping a real person make great strides towards economic independence and improve life for themselves, their family, and their community. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates and track repayments. Then, when you get your loan money back, you can relend to someone else in need.

Kiva partners with existing expert microfinance institutions. In doing so, we gain access to outstanding entrepreneurs from impoverished communities world-wide. Our partners are experts in choosing qualified entrepreneurs. That said, they are usually short on funds. Through Kiva, our partners upload their entrepreneur profiles directly to the site so you can lend to them. When you do, not only do you get a unique experience connecting to a specific entrepreneur on the other side of the planet, but our microfinance partners can do more of what they do, more efficiently.

Kiva provides a data-rich, transparent lending platform. We are constantly working to make the system more transparent to show how money flows throughout the entire cycle, and what effect it has on the people and institutions lending it, borrowing it, and managing it along the way. To do this, we are using the power of the internet to facilitate one-to-one connections that were previously prohibitively expensive. Child sponsorship has always been a high overhead business. Kiva creates a similar interpersonal connection at much lower costs due to the instant, inexpensive nature of internet delivery. The individuals featured on our website are real people who need a loan and are waiting for socially-minded individuals like you to lend them money”

  My Kiva page is:  http://www.kiva.org/lender/hnbbs
You can see some of the people that I have made loans to at that page.  Think about joining and loaning via Kiva.

My guess is that the headline got your attention.  I hate Fox “news” but I love their web site.  Well I hate their web site but it is fun to read sometimes.
They have a story “U.N. Report Advocates Teaching Masturbation to 5-Year Olds.”  Of course it is crap.  It is a UNESCO report or study released and it does not call for teaching 5 year olds to learn masturbation.  It is calling for some age appropriate guide lines for teaching children 5 to 18 years of age.

Now that we are done laughing … I want to know where can I apply for one of these jobs and how much do they pay?  smile_confused  ( I know the joke is in bad taste but I like jerking your chain sometimes.)

Now he wants to have his own place and his own space.  I do not blame him.  Hell I feel the same way.  Smile
The plan is for us to renew the lease on this condo for six months and then make the moves in six months.
Russell, my grandson, will move with me.  He is going to take full loads of school so he can have his two year degree when we move.

I would love to live in Titusville or in and around that area of FL.  But I think the important thing is for Russell to get his four year degree.  So Gainesville or Tallahassee would be best for him because of college.  I am not crazy about living in either of them… no ocean… smile.  Yes, I know…I live here in Miami and never go to the beach and in fact never leave the house..But I see myself as a beach bum living on the beach.  Smile

Anyone live in Gainsville or Tallahassee have any recommendations for renting.  I would like to spend $600 or less a month.  Anyone of have any connections with University of Florida?  Smile
